Policy Development

Let's talk about the importance of having a clear and comprehensive health and safety policy and procedures for your business.

Having a health and safety policy is not just a legal requirement, but it's also a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of your employees. In fact, if your business has five or more employees, it's legally required to have a formal, written health and safety policy in place.

A well written health and safety policy outlines the approach and commitment that your business has to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. It's like a roadmap that guides your business towards responsible health and safety management.

But don't worry; I'm here to help! I can work with you to develop a meaningful, accurate, and legally compliant health and safety policy that accurately reflects your company's activities. Together, we can create a policy that not only meets legal requirements but also promotes a culture of safety and well-being within your workplace.

Remember, a health and safety policy is not just a piece of paper - it's a vital tool for protecting your employees and your business. So, let's work together to create a policy that works for you and keeps everyone safe and happy!

Health and Safety Audits and Inspections

As an employer, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for your employees is crucial. But with ever-changing regulations and complex requirements, it can be a challenge to stay updated and identify all potential hazards in your workplace. That's where I come in to help!

With my expertise in workplace health and safety, I offer comprehensive audits and inspections to make sure your workplace meets all legal requirements and remains safe for your employees. Whether you conduct internal audits or inspections, I can provide a fresh perspective, especially when familiarity with your workplace may make it difficult to spot emerging hazards.

I have extensive experience in various workplaces, from small to large, including schools, warehouses, offices, and transport hubs. I can help you identify critical areas, weaknesses, and common hazards that require monitoring, and work together to create a safer work environment for your employees.

My health and safety audits are designed to collect information on the effectiveness of your safety management system and create a plan for improvement. I'll identify areas that need attention and develop an action plan with realistic timeframes to ensure legislative compliance. Similarly, my health and safety inspections focus on specific elements of your management system or individual sections, sites, or work processes. I'll identify common safety hazards and risks and recommend improvements to eliminate or control them, maintaining best practices.

After conducting a detailed audit or inspection, I'll provide you with a comprehensive report that includes recommendations for necessary remedial action, including highlighting high-priority actions that need prompt attention. These reports serve as a valuable record of proactive development on health and safety issues and assist you in planning and implementing effective remedial actions.

My goal is to help you reduce workplace accidents and create the safest possible work environment for your employees. Let me assist you in identifying critical areas, weaknesses, and common hazards that require monitoring, and work together to create a safer and more fun workplace for your employees! Contact me today to schedule an audit or inspection.

Outsourced Health and Safety - Competent Person

Welcome to the exciting world of Health and Safety!

Why do you need a Health and Safety Competent Person, you ask? Well, it's not just a good idea; it's a legal requirement. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 says that every employer, regardless of size or sector, must appoint one or more competent persons to help them with health and safety. Failure to do so can have serious consequences, including fines or even imprisonment. Yikes!

So, what are the benefits of having a Health and Safety Competent Person on board? It's not just about ticking boxes for compliance; it's about keeping your employees safe and your business running smoothly. Hiring a competent person saves you time and effort by handling the complexities of health and safety, ensuring the safety of your employees, and keeping your business compliant.

With my extensive experience working with businesses of all sizes across various sectors, I provide practical, compliant, and tailored health and safety advice that meets the unique needs of your organisation.

Let me be your trusted Health and Safety Competent Person, and together, we can prioritise the safety and well-being of your employees and your business, create a safer work environment and ensure your business stays on the right side of the law, all while having some fun along the way!

Fire Risk Assessment

Are you aware of the importance of a fire risk assessment for your building? Let me break it down for you. A fire risk assessment is a thorough review of a building to evaluate its fire risk and identify any safety issues. It provides recommendations on how to make the building safer, if needed, to protect lives and give peace of mind to employees or residents.

Who is responsible for ensuring the fire risk assessment is carried out? According to the law, every business and block of flats must have a designated 'Responsible Person' who is accountable for fire safety. This person's role is to ensure that relevant fire safety duties are fulfilled, take action to prevent fires, and ensure safe evacuation in case of a fire. For small businesses, this is often the business owner.

As a qualified and Chartered health and safety professional with specific qualifications in Fire Risk Assessments and membership in the Institute of Fire Engineers, I can help you with your fire risk assessment. I have in-depth knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and experience in interpreting its contents based on the specific trade or operations of your building or unit.

Don't leave the safety of your building and its occupants to chance. Let me assist you in conducting a thorough and compliant fire risk assessment to minimize risks and ensure the safety of all.

Emergency Procedures - Fire and Evacuation

Emergency fire and evacuation plans are vital for workplace safety. While some may think building plans are enough, the reality is that tailored evacuation plans are essential, especially for those with disabilities or mobility challenges.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places responsibilities on employers and organisations to ensure everyone can safely exit the building during a fire or emergency. This means having specific plans in place for individuals at higher risk, like those who are disabled or vulnerable.

A General Emergency Evacuation Plan (GEEP) outlines a building's layout, evacuation steps, equipment, and communication tools for use in emergencies. It's especially useful for visitors with limited mobility or those needing assistance.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) are for individuals who may struggle to evacuate independently. Unlike a GEEP, a PEEP is customised for each person, detailing escape routes and identifying those who will help with the evacuation.

Deciding between a GEEP or PEEP is important. If your business has visitors or employees on-site, a GEEP is necessary. The need for a PEEP depends on an individual's ability to evacuate quickly and independently during an emergency. Permanent PEEPs are for those with mobility, sight, hearing, or cognitive challenges, while temporary PEEPs are for those with short-term injuries or medical conditions.

I'm here to assist you in creating personalised emergency fire and evacuation plans for your business. This will give you the confidence that your plans are strong and effective.
